In 1983 Bob Sealy had a “Dream”. That dream was to put together the ultimate big bass tournament, one which is open to amateurs, but overshadows the richest of the tournaments on the professional tour. Today that dream has materialized into a reality. The “BIG BASS SPLASH” is noted as the largest grassroots amateur big bass fishing tournaments of it’s kind and promoting family weekend fun.
In the beginning, Bob sat watching fishing shows like Bill Dance, Hank Parker and Jimmy Houston, subconsciously wishing it was him. After fishing several pro tournaments, he soon came to realize that these types of events weren’t just for the pros. This is when he decided to start his own fishing tournament, one that would cater only to the amateur anglers, allowing them to be put into the same limelight as the pros by winning “BIG CASH & PRIZES” without the huge fees.
The Big Bass Splash tournaments payout hourly cash and the heaviest bass of the events takes home the grand prize. Because Bob felt the anglers should have more opportunities to win, he added the exact weights, elimination drawing and most importantly made them entertaining.
With it’s family atmosphere, people travel every year to fish Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend, Lake Fork and Lake Guntersville from almost every state in the union plus other foreign countries to migrate as one big reunion.
This is why the Little Angler’s Division was created. Bob believes in the Future Fishing Foundation. He gets a kick out of watching the children come up to the weigh in grinning from ear to ear, holding a fish that’s smaller than the palm of his hand. Bob says “It’s families of children just like these, yours & mine, who benefit from the rewards of catching their very first and being recognized as part of the Sealy Outdoors Family”.
Bob is known for mingling with the crowd through the event and involving them in the tournament finale. It’s not unusual to find him crouched down talking to a child and being totally upstaged by a youngster with a story to tell.
Since it’s creation, Sealy Outdoors has paid out millions of dollars in cash & prizes to the grassroots anglers all across the country and raised millions in donations for various charity organizations: Ronald McDonald House & Select McDonald’s Charities; St Jude Children’s Hospital; March of Dimes; Boys Haven and Make A Wish Foundation to name a few.
Sealy Outdoors has proven to be an industry leader and continues to bring fishing, family, fun and CASH to the grassroots anglers of the world while benefitting those in need, and the legend lives on.
Bob’s family and staff over the years have watch and changed many people’s lives. Each year, Bob proudly declares “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet!” and he lives up to it.
